Supported by the Old Scholars Committee, this event has continued to grow since it was first initiated and developed in 2011. It is a wonderful and unique opportunity for 麻豆视频 students to connect with old scholars, and current and past parents, who are working in the industries that they are interested in pursuing after graduation. At this year鈥檚 event 60 mentors and 123 students were in attendance, and over breakfast questions were asked and career paths discussed. The industries represented on the day included Medicine, Law, Engineering, Social Sciences and Performing Arts, just to name a few!
Careers Breakfast, DY Hall
The two 20-minute sessions allowed students to move from one industry to the next and gain valuable insight into career paths they may not have been interested in previously. They were able to hear individual career stories and gain appreciation of the various influences on a person鈥檚 career journey. There was also the opportunity at the end of the event for students to ask questions and network before heading to class.
鈥�The Careers Break颅fast gave me the oppor颅tu颅ni颅ty to talk to sev颅er颅al peo颅ple in the health and med颅ical indus颅try, in addi颅tion to a defence force offi颅cer. With my own per颅son颅al inter颅est in sim颅i颅lar careers it was insight颅ful to hear about their day-to-day, as well as the numer颅ous path颅ways and oppor颅tu颅ni颅ties in their occu颅pa颅tions鈥夆�斺�塶oth颅ing I could have ever learnt from a Google search.鈥�

For mentors it was a wonderful opportunity to inspire the next generation but also to catch up with each other! Many mentors knew each other either as classmates or from their previous involvement in the event.
鈥�What an oppor颅tu颅ni颅ty the Pem颅broke Careers Break颅fast is鈥夆�斺�塮or both the stu颅dents and us old schol颅ars alike! My career path has had its twists and turns and con颅tin颅ues to evolve with time鈥夆�斺�塻ome颅thing I hap颅pi颅ly share with the stu颅dents who so often feel the pres颅sure of need颅ing to choose their for颅ev颅er job now. I real颅ly enjoy my inter颅ac颅tions with the Year 11 and 12 stu颅dents, who often pleas颅ant颅ly sur颅prise me with their can颅dour and con颅fi颅dence. It is also a tes颅ta颅ment to the cal颅i颅bre of our school to see such a diverse range of suc颅cess颅ful careers amongst our old schol颅ars and have them give back to our school com颅mu颅ni颅ty by return颅ing to share their own expe颅ri颅ences and insights.鈥�

This year first-time mentors joined us from industries such as Law, Medicine, Architecture and Defence, and we hope that this variety of careers and mentors will help the senior students with their vocational choices in the future. It is lovely to see mentors who attended the breakfast themselves returning to share their knowledge and career pathways.
